2008 Koi Person of the Year
Written by Walt Oldenburg
I met Mary through a conversation at work where she introduced me to the concept of a koi club. For those who don’t know her, allow me to share a little about her. She’s one of the hardest workers I’ve met. She has an innate ability to find people and draw them into the NFKPC.
She’s been our Newsletter Editor for roughly 4 years now, constantly seeking valuable information about koi and ponds for us to gleen off of. If you have ever tried to take on such a responsibility then you know how hard it is to get others to participate, but she manages to pull it off.
Next she took on the role of trying to put together the Koi show in 2007 when no one would step up to the plate. You have to admire the desire to jump in to a project which I would have to say was a tad overwhelming. As difficult as it was; Mary, with the help of some wonderful members pulled it off and then went at it again in 2008.
I’ve watched her through the years and to this day she still has the desire to help others with their pond, and if she doesn’t have the answers, knows where to find it. I give her a lot of credit for her desire to learn. She’s about to undergo surgery, and already has helpers in place to get out the August newsletter. While she’s down you will find her studying to be a stronger member in the hobby. You can count on that!
