Back to other ponds

The Martin pond, dug in the summer of 2004 is roughly kidney shaped, about 18 ft. long x 6-9 ft wide and 39” to 42 “ deep. It contains approximately 3500 gallons and has 2 tapered shelves (6-12” deep) running approximately half way along each side. We have a bottom drain which feeds a pump that produces 5,000 gph.

The pump is situated behind a 3 ft. high 2 ft wide waterfall with a 6” wide side rapid. We also have 2 smaller pumps running 250 and 350 gph located on one of the shelves which lead through a UV light to our side watercourse and our small 6 ft. x 6 ft. bog. The bog was added in 2005 and serves as a bio-filter and fry sanctuary.

Plants: we have 5 water lilies. On the shelves we have potted arrowheads, pickerel weed, canna lily, iris, water celery and rush plants. In the bog we have similar plants as well as small cattails and water hyacinths. There are also extensive plantings throughout the yard.

Fish: We have 8 Koi (6 Butterfly) ranging in size from 4” - 12” along with 5 Goldfish, 3 Shubunkins and 6 Goldfish/Shubunkin offspring.
