Our pond was completely home brew, having been constructed from a former pool which was 24 ft in diameter. The pond ranges from 3 ft to 5 ft in depth. The pond is estimated to contain between 10,000 to 12,000 gallons of water.
The filtration system is constructed using five 50 gallon buckets, which have been filled with various media over the years. Currently they are filled with hair curlers of various shapes and sizes.
The power for the filtration system comes from a Sequence model 750 pump that is rated at 2000 gph at 8.5 of head. As for the head for this system is lower, the actual output of the pump is somewhat higher. There is a second Sequence 750 pump which serves as a standby should the primary pump fail for any reason.
We have a small mag drive pump that powers a bubbling rock, a splitter and a small fountain. Our pond is home to approximately 30 Koi, 30 water lilies and numerous water Hyacinths which the fish love. We have one velvet black butterfly koi that hails back to the early years of the club.
