	STOP 10: Walt & Lin Oldenburg

Pond 1: Water Garden 15’ oval, 2’ deep, Approx. 1800 gal.

Pond 2: Koi Pond 21’ x 17’ “L” shaped 3’-4’ deep, Approx. 7800 gal.

Our Water Garden was first built in 2005 and then relocated behind the Gazebo when we reconstructed our new pond in 2006.

Water Garden

Roughly 20” deep, the water is drawn from a Pondmaster skimmer/filter through a Pondmaster 2400 gph MagDrive pump. It then feeds a Laguna Pressure-Flo Pressurized Filter with built in UV light. The water flows gently from a waterfalls and a small vase.

Here Lin has a medley of water plants, from the magnificent Lotus, to numerous water lilies and assorted plants. Our koi had an unplanned spawn and we have roughly 100 little guys swimming around..

Koi Pond

We could only dig down 20” and we hit solid bedrock. We placed 2 rows of block with supported re-bar and concrete around the entire perimeter. The exterior of the block is covered with a cement veneer.

We have a large Savio skimmer with a 3” PVC line which feeds a 3600gph W. Lim external pump. The water flows into a 4’ long trickle tower which feeds the stream.

In the center we have 2 aerated bottom drains which lead to the settlement tank through 2 – 4” lines. The water is drawn with a 7800 gph Sequence pump into our Ultima 10,000 bead filter. The water then feeds our main waterfall.

We have 34 Koi. All but 3 are imports from Japan ranging from 8” to 20”. The other guys are from Taiwan.

All the gardens are done masterfully by Lin. It has turned out to be a great plact to escape the worries of the day.
