NFKPC 10th Annual Pond Tour

July 13, 2002

P7130023
P7130027

We started off the day at Gordon Ballard's city garden gathering over coffee, donuts & juice while we looked at Gordon's two ponds, beautiful gardens and passed out maps and driving directions for the day. Then we ventured just four blocks away to...

P7130031 P7130034

the home and pond of Scott Washburn & John Crawford. There we were whisked into the Oriental mystique of a Japanese garden with its ornamental trees & shrubs and, of course, a tea garden. After that it was on to the home of...

P7130041 P7130044

Jennifer & Jim Guercio who made space for us in their busy day. As we arrived, a tour bus from Menne Nursery was getting ready to depart, and Jennifer & Jim were hosting a garden party that evening for 130 guests! They have many large koi that are transported into the indoor pond every fall tucked in Jennifer's cradling arms.

P7130055

We then headed north to the ponds of Karen & Paul Braymiller. We don't know what you guys feed your koi, but my guess is that it is whale food! The koi are huge! From there it was on to...

P7130076 P7130074

Phil Grefrath's pond, home to the Grand Champion from our Koi Show. After that, a visit to the pond of...

P7130088 P7130087

Les Wolf brought many oooh's and ahhhh's. Les says that next year it will be even bigger and better.

A little break in the schedule at this point allowed folks to visit their favorite fast food restaurant before the trip east to the home of...

P7130101
P7130096

Helen Roberts & John Stark. Their pond is a beautiful blend of plants & fish in a most natural setting. Heading south at this point, we stopped at the pond of...

P7130110 P7130111

Brian & Helen Hodge. They have done some wonderfully creative things in landscaping with (as Brian proudly points out) mostly hand carried rocks, bricks, etc.

The schedule then took us to our most southerly point in the town of Boston to see the pond of...

P7130120
P7130116

our friend Ray "Kingfish" & Denise Lucas who so generously makes our annual koi show such a financial success. Unfortunately, the night before the tour something killed off all but one of Ray's pond fish. We did however enjoy seeing the pond and the many large indoor aquariums. Heading north again brought us to the pond of...

P7130123
P7130133

Greg Gordon & Janet Evert. All were amazed to learn that this beautiful, well-planted pond is only 1 year old. Great job!

A turn to the northeast took us to the home of...

P7130137
P7130139

Loren & Tracy Prucnal where in addition to seeing the pond, we enjoyed our pizza, wings and cold drinks. Loren is in the process of building a new pond and we look forward to seeing it next year.

Thanks to all who opened their yards to us, but a special thanks to Scott Washburn, John Crawford, Jennifer & Jim Guercio and Ray & Denise Lucas who are not club members but still allowed us to tramp through their gardens. Our welcome mat is out for you to join us at any time
